AC In

Ahhh! The AC motor arrived today, early in the morning. TF took off from work to install the motor. Mom watched Tyoma as the two of us communicated with some difficulty over walkie-talkies. The difficulty came from trying to find a frequency unpopulated by local construction workers. Every time I would hear masculine staccato speech, I would answer back in Russian, “Schto? Ne Slishna,*” confusing husband and laborer alike.  In two hours, we had fresh cool air, just in time for a cold front. Eh, well!
* “What? I couldn’t hear you.”

Tanya's Coming!

Whoa! A surprise for everyone! Tennisfiend brought me Fontessa's flight schedule today.

She'll be here the last week of April through the last week of May. I suggested that she come earlier or leave ealier since it is often in the upper 90s in late May.

I feel like this was visited upon me, rather than mutually and agreeably decided upon. Oh, well. With partial and even no paychecks, we've got bigger fish to fry. Jeeze, I gotta clean house.

My Birthday

Birthday Picture

I am waaay to old! Surprising me with an afternoon call, Ewbliette invited me to spend girl time together. Tennisfiend delighted me with a big bouquet of flowers. My inbox held more well-wishes, Fontessa and company sent the lovely image above (from her garden)and the other Moskvichi sent poems and well wishes. To top off an excellent day, Mom and Dad gifted me with enough funding to make my bedroom project a reality. Yay!

AC Out

Spring is upon us, and summer impends. A few unseasonable spikes of hot temperatures make afternoons prickly and nights uncomfortable. This is why we started up our swamp cooler a month ago. Nothing is more unpleasant than servicing the cooler in a sudden heat wave, especially if it’s windy.

We’ve enjoyed almost a month of fine cool air at the flick of a switch until yesterday. I turned on the AC. Whackada whackada whackada. Gnrrrrrr. Nngrrrrrr. WHUMP. Total silence. The engine died. Tennisfiend came home an hour early from work to inspect the problem.

I called repair shops only to discover that they won’t service a motor that is crimped closed. At nine p.m., TF pried the damn thing open and tried to repair it. No luck. Several phone calls today revealed that we would have to order a new motor. ONE place has a motor that will fit our ancient machine. It will be here next Thursday, one day before TF’s mom arrives. House cleaning will be very sweaty.

Easter Sermon

Easter Sermon

Heh. Looks like he's bringing down the word from way up high. We totally skipped Easter this year. Not even a single colored egg. My folk's neighbor did send us a lovely homemade basket of candies. Next year, it will be a blast.
On serious note, he does look rather intense? Don't you think?  We have him out in the stroller for some fresh air and soothing, since strolls arounfd the backyard settle him down.

Health Scare for Misty

Naturally with all the scary news about contaminated pet food, I've kept one eye on Misty and the other on CNN. Despite her not eating any of the tainted brands, each day seems to widen the number of toxic foods, so vigilance seems in order.

While washing the morning dishes, I spotted Misty straining away in our grassy area. She looked normal to me and I made a mental note to pick up the poo before watering the yard. An hour later I toddled out back to accomplish my almost forgotten task. I picked up the poo and spotted a silver dollar size reddish-black blob. I thought, "Hmm," and retreated to the house to answer Tyoma's squall.

As I changed diapers, I began to ruminate over the spot, wondering if it was blood. I plopped my freshly dressed baby into his playpen and dashed outside, q-tip in hand. It was definitely blood. Since Misty seemed unperturbed, I searched for reasons to account for the mucousy blood. Drawing a blank, I quickly consulted our giant book of veterinary care, which suggested an immediate call to the vet's office.

I called. The alarmed receptionist said to keep a close eye on Misty, and to bring her straight in if she voided anymore blood. In the meantime, the she would find an afternoon spot for an appointment. Ten minutes later, the answer to my question made an appearance. The sleek young cat that haunts our property looked desperately unwell, retching on an adjoining fence. He vomited the bloody spot. I felt tremendously relieved yet sad for the unknown owners of the cat.

Happy St. Patrick's Day

Tonight we're dining on a traditional feast of corned beef, cabbage and potatoes, a la crock pot for dinner. This is a bit of a treat since we have been trying to economize due to the job situation. Anyway, why would I post text without a baby pic? This was taken by Papa:

Sailor Suit

I just noticed that Tennisfiend put our little skipper on the ocean wave side of his favorite quilt (Thank you, Helen!). Clever fellow!

Good-bye Aquarium

Since we might be packing up and leaving, I decided to give our aquarium the ole heave-ho. I donated the remaining fish to Petco (Rest In Peace) and spent the rest of the day with buckets of bleach and siphon hose. Tennisfiend  will store the behemoth in th garage until we can find a good home for it. Sigh.

Tennisbaby

Tennisbaby

Papa's already showing baby the ropes!

I swear this is the cutest pic! ( I seem to be saying that a lot, eh?) Little Tyoma looks astonished, as if to say, what! Play a game today? With This??

He has the sweetest temperment! We have been working with him to ensure that his sleeping patterns get hard-wired into his little brain. I've been devouring books on sleep and nutrition for the little guy. So "sleep hygeine" is a must. E, Dad and I all have trouble with nighttime sleep, so I'm working hard to keep Tyoma on track.

We have a little ritual of reading we do before baby bedtime. The little guy loves to cuddle and read books. The final book we read is "Fuzzy Bee."

I have the whole story memorized, so I can rock him and tell him the story. The funny thing is that once he sees the Fuzzy Bee book, he starts to cry and fuss since he knows what's coming next!
