What! More Sickness!?

This week is winter vacation week in NH, which pretty much means that all the folks with dinero pack up and go to Florida for the week. After last week's horrible events with Tennisfiend and his flu, I brought Tyoma to infection central (AKA "KinderCare") with some trepidation.

As I was dropping him off, I noticed a sign posted to announce that the center was experiencing an outbreak of a "stomach bug." I asked about it at the front desk, where the Assistant Director told me it was occasional vomiting plus lots of diarrhea. I turned around and marched Tyoma back to the car and sanitized his hands. When I returned to cancel classes for the rest of the week, the assistant was in the bathroom thunderously voiding her breakfast. Yee. I don't think we will be back for a while.

Holy Crap, Here's Your Influenza A (H1)

Poor, poor Tennisfiend!!! After mama left he came down with my horrible flu. And I mean horrible. I have never seen him this ill. Fever of 102, chills, sweats, aches, nausea. I put spare sheets next to the bed so he could change them after he sweat through them.

I am scared for him. This morning at six he told me that he was having pain in the right side of his chest. It hurt so much he couldn't lie down flat. His blood pressure was so low he felt dizzy. We got him into see a doctor first thing this morning and they ran an EKG.

His heart is okay, but he might have viral pneumonia. The low blood pressure came from losing too much fluid to the fever. He's on bed rest and both of us are disgusted with being so ill for so long. Since we sent Tyoma to KinderCare, we have been sick, sick and sick. We are talking about removing him from the program for the 1,000th time.

Farewell Fontessa!

Tennisfiend's mom is on her way home after a very pleasant visit. We are so grateful to her for all her help while I was so sick. It was wonderful that she got to visit with her friends for a week. I think the change of scenery was refreshing for her!

I think this visit went well, oddly because of the sickness.  Fontessa had something concrete to do and I was too sick and exhausted to clash over Tyoma stuff.  And when I was better and she was ill, I spent my time fussing over her, which always seems to boost her spirits.
Tyoma has been a little devil, especially since my illness. I speculate that it distressed him greatly when I was wiped out in bed and not taking care of him. Some firm limit setting should help. Plus, I think that he is giving up his afternoon nap and is in that awful cranky place where a nap is too much sleep (jumping up and down until 9:30 pm), and no nap is too little (fussy britches from 4:30 on). Eh, motherhood!

Valentinichka!

When the florist rang today to say he was bringing MORE flowers, I was aghast! Fontessa received three lovely vases of flowers in only a week, this would be four! What love! What devotion! What jealousy from me!

When I heard more flowers were on their way, I never thought that they could be for me. This gorgeous vase arrived and I was on the way up the stairs to bring them to her when I noticed my name on them. I thought, “Why would Fontessa’s friends from Philadelphia send me roses?”

D’Oh! They were from Tennisfiend!!! A family first! I was shocked to see “Valenteenichka!” on the note. I took a photo to commemorate the occasion! Thank you Sweetheart!!! These are the lovliest flowers I've ever gotten!

Happy Birthday Mom, Here's Your Package (Not)

Picking out presents for my mom is crazy hard, but I feel proud of thinking of something good after three days of internet surfing. So, I order said presenent and arrange shipping so it reaches her on her birthday. In fact, the ups truck makes a stop, but no package is found on the front steps or anywhere around the house. My shipping info shows the package as delivered. If the package had been delivered to a neighbor, they would have dropped it off to her, unless, of course, they accidentally dropped it off at Irma's house.

Irma is in her eighties and (we think) has Alzhhiemers. It would be totally conceivable that she would accept the package and forget about it. Dad makes the neighborhood rounds and the package does not show up. I tell mom that I sent her a nice black leather purse and suggest she visit Irma and ask about it--Irma might have received it and thought it was for her.

Mom visits Irma to ask if the package arrived by accident. Distress over the idea of a missing present,  Irma comes back to my mom's place three separate times, bringing my mom her old and worn purses. The forth time she comes over, Irma has a bloody nose from trying to crawl into her clothes dryer to look for mom's purse. Yikes. Mom wound up spending part of the afternoon calming Irma down.

Anyway, the present finally showed up. Someone stuffed it into my folks mailbox. Go figure!

ETA: For the next serveral weeks, Irma remembers the purse and makes random, wild eyed visits to my folks.

Das Trampoline

We've been pulling our hair out, trying to figure out how to cope with killer baby! He skips naps and seems so wired in the evening. We decided to pick up a trampoline to give him an outlet for his energy. So we haul the red beast home from Toys 'r Us, assemble it...

..and it immediately becomes a home for his letters!

I'm pleased to report that after a half an hour of organizing letters, he went on a jumping frenzy and seemed much calmer afterward!

Happy Birthday, Here's Your Influenza A (H1) Virus...

After taking care of our sick household for three days, poor Fontessa came down with the flu a day before her birthday. So Sad! But, as you can see she is much loved! Look at all these flowers!

Her friends sent her flowers last Monday, a sort of "thinking of you " bouquet, which was inexplicably duplicated resulting in two lovely vases of flowers. And of course, the tulips arrived today. Tennisfiend and I added a modest bouquet of her favorite cyclamen, and viola! We could open a flowershop!

The good news is that Fontessa is feeling much better today. I was so worried for her since I was so incredibly sick. I even set up a baby monitor in her room so she could wake us if she got bad chills or body aches and needed help. Pffft! She was up and about looking pale but cheerful. Yay! Happy Birthday!

Happy Anniversery, Here's Your Influenza A (H1) Virus...

Tennisfiend and I have been married for fourteen happy years. We celebrated our happy day with matching mentholated tissue boxes, Advil Liqi-caps, Tylenol and Ramantidine.  I can tell you, this has been the worst year evah for getting sick!!! Naturally, it started off with Tyoma becoming ill over the weekend. I ironically boasted to mom that we were over the illness hump on Saturday.  On cue, his nose started running. The fussiness began on Sunday. I assumed the whole mess was cold # 13 from daycare. Wrong!!!

Monday night my sniffleIy nose started. I still had the sniffles the next moring at seven,  but I felt okay. Then, BAM! Within three hours time I was dying. Strong, strong muscle aches, naseua, headache, cough, you name it. I had to lay down and let Fontessa take over with Tyoma. To add drama to the situation, as I settled Tyoma down for his afternoon nap, Fontessa slipped and fell down the bottom half of the stairs. Good Lord!!! Fortunately, she was embarassed but unharmed. A relief to her, especially since she had and an immigration interview scheduled that afternoon.

When Tennisfiend left for work, he felt sickish. His face was ashen when he came home to take Fontessa to her appointment at two. Luckily, her appointment was over in an instant, so he came straight home and went to bed. By six he had a temperature of 102.7.  The only well person in the house, Fontessa took over like a champ. Thank heavens for that. Although Tyoma spent almost four hours asleep during his nap, his fever never broke 100.9, so no trip to the doctor. I helped when I could since poor sick babies want their Mamas!

Well, anyway, Tennisfiend and I ate crackers and felt miserable together! Romantic!
