Juniper Hell

Heh. I had gin and tonic last night at the hot tub party. Not that I had much, since gin has a nastiness that I associate with Whitechapple and dead prostitutes.  Brrr. Anyway, before I fed Tyoma this morning, I did my usual thing, washing my hands and making formula. Blah. Gin smell.

An hour or two later, I worked in the back yard and came into the bathroom to another gin smell. Blah. I figured that I was either loosing my mind or that gin was truly the most foul drink ever--lingering around my person in an eternal noxious cloud. When Ewbliette came over to visit and I compulsively washed my hands for the tenth time this day--more stink. Heh.

My handsoap is juniper scented! What a relief! I can guarantee that I will not sip a bit of the odious stuff for at least another year!

In other news, Tyoma is walking very well! Ewbliette spent time with him prior to the big trip next week. She will help out mom next Sunday and Monday. I gave Ewbliette all my neurotic legal papers, instructions and  imperatives. With her usual good humour, she laughed heartily over my juniper story. :)

Hot Tub!!!

OMFG! Ewbliette and Brotherkurt bought a very fancy hot tub! I visited tonight and the experience was spectacular!

Zow! The tub seats a generous six and has 1,000 remote controls. Unbelievable! Six jet pressures per station and twenty light effects. I swear the thing will blast off into orbit if you hit the wrong button! Seriously, seriously cool!

Ewbliette had an assortment of towels, robes and slippers elegantly laid out for the two of us, when I arrived. We selected more natural  options(whee!) and bubbled away for the next two hours. Few resorts could offer such a nice tub and the company was priceless! Yay!

Thank You Olya!

Our friend Olya, sent lovely birthday greetings for Tyoma:
Handmade Quilted Pillow
She handmade this quilted pillow for our squirmy baby! It's soft, sweet and very pretty! Thank you so much for the precious, thoughtful present!

What is especially lovely is the Paul Klee design going on!

Patricia Rules

I dropped by to visit with Pat tonight, peanut butter and celery in hand. I'm doing the Atkin's thing, hoping for miracle weight loss. Tonight is her last evening here before an exiting vacation with in California. My friend dearly needs a reprieve. Her work has been hectic and unfair. Brrr--accounting. Brrr--managing people.

The two of us would make excellent (but not very quiet) librarians. Anyway, I was in a blue mood tonight. Dragged down by our fruitless job search, discouraged by my weight loss, and disappointed with personal issues ( I really want us to ditch his company and get another job), I had a pity party in the middle of her living room. Bless Ewbliette for her unflagging optimism, sweet sympathy, and grounded reality check. Oh, and bless her for being insanely funny! And bless her for the mess of Atkins goodies she sent me home with. Heh. Have a fun trip!!!

Whoa!

I just recieved the official announcement. Our Friend AK and his sweetie IK are getting married! I was pretty surprised since they were so hush-hush, but congratualations!

Tyoma and I visited with my folks this morning. I felt a bit wiped out after not sleeping so well. That's what I get for drinking two cups of coffee plus endless afternoon sodas during my Orgy of Fun with Pat yesterday. Anyway, TF was pensive throughout the day, preoccupied with the possibility of AK leaving his company. Things will work out for the best.

Girls in the Pool!

Today was fantastic! Ewbliette came over during Tyoma’s nap and we dished while gobbling multigrain Tostitos and swilling Aquafina. When squirmer woke up, we fed him lunch and took off for a stroll at the mall. Gratefully, we found a shady spot under a tree a within walking distance to the mall entrance. As we rolled the stroller up to the main walkway, we approached a teen fashion show blaring nameless music. Nostalgically, I recalled my own days strutting on the mini-catwalk. Heh. The music was quite different then. Goodness, how time passes quickly.

The rest of the mall was elbow-to-elbow people. Hordes of Las Crucens packed the main thoroughfare. The crowd thinned out after we passed the mini-mariachi band near the Verison cell phone booth. With less people, I was able to get a better look at the mall’s new floor.

Two years ago, the mall began a massive remodeling project. They scraped off the original terracotta tiles leaving pocked and crumbling concrete behind. The bare concrete seemed to be the new look since they bare and unrepaired for the next nine months. Then one night, the folks from El Paso International Airport snuck in and randomly glued the ugliest squares of cheap industrial grade carpeting everywhere. Some of the squares were peach, mustard, cadet blue, and olive. The remainders looked like giant tacky swaths of fabric snipped out of Dr. Cliff Huxtable’s least favorite sweaters. Absolutely hideous. And not hideous in an interesting way. Hideous in a half-assed, ill conceived, running-out-of-money-and-supplies-way. The furniture was marginally more tasteful, as if some sensible person arrived at the last moment and decided that the perfect naugahyde benchs would fix everything.

Sorry. I’ve been meaning to complain about that for a while. Anyway, we detoured through Dillards, where out of sheer perversity, they were displaying their most awesome clothes, ever (I have no money for clothes and I am weeks away from altering my maternity wear to look stylish). After regretfully departing from the cutest blue and brown flirty top, we trucked over to our true destination: Barnes and Nobel. It took us less than fifteen minutes to load up on books. Ewbliette treated me to a book on interior design that I could not live without (cheaper that the flirty blouse), reminding me that she had missed my birthday. She is so sweet, this is the third time that she had bought me books because she forgot my birthday. What a pal!

We drove over to her place, where spices obscured her kitchen table as she re-invents kitchen storage. Once every three months, she likes to mix things up--moving furniture, reorganizing cabinets and shelves, and re-hanging wall art. I admire her energy and envy her tolerant husband. Once something finds a place in my house, it never moves. Tennisfiend despises change. We drank sodas and gabbed, feeding Tyoma dinner before returning to my place.

Tennisfiend whizzed out of the house the instant we returned. He left to visit with his buddy A, leaving us to our own devices. Tyoma took some alone time after even more food and I pumped milk while Ewbliette cracked open the design book I so adored at B & N. We chose patterns for our dream homes and spend thousands of dollars in twenty hopeful minutes. After he went to sleep (instantaneously!) Ewbliette went to the store and I fixed up the back porch with an umbrella, table, chairs, fans, a sprinkler and rope lights.

We talked for two hours straight before hitting the pool. The water was so warm; it was like swimming in blood. Nevertheless, a chill descended over the desert around 9:00, making the water the perfect temperature. We bobbed and circled each other until about ten, when I wobbled out of the pool and into the house. I heard a car pull up and stop in the driveway, and assumed Tennisfiend had returned home. Twenty minutes later, when we both returned to the house, I freaked since Tennisfiend was not there and the AC pump switch had been flipped “off”

E.T.A.: We discovered that out AC periodically switches the pump off), filling the house with a pungent fishy-algae smell. Swamp coolers suck. A phone call revealed that TF was still with A, and the car/AC thing event was a weird coincidence.

The Neighborhood Visit

My Sunday visit with my folks wound up being a neighborhood spectacle. Jimmie, my kick-ass cyclist girlfriend (married to my childhood friend and neighbor), whisked Tyoma up, starling him into a loud crying jag. All the neighborhood women fussed and cooed over him.

I had a National Geographic moment, realizing that our little gathering of women was at one with tribes in Africa and Asia. What cheerful women! Joanne was flushed and happy, almost as if Tyoma was her grandkid. This was understandable, since I grew up with her two youngest sons and we split our time between her house and my mom's.

Irene, our neighbor with Alzheimer's, stopped by, said "I came to see the baby," and launched into a inexplicable story about a bird she saw the day before. Every move baby made was praised and commented upon. I didn't know if I should have felt embarrassed or proud! Anyway, I dragged myself away from the adulation to enjoy a guitar playing session with the folks.

Tyoma Plays Guitar

I took some more pics, but I'm a goof and they were mostly over exposed. BUT, here's my mom:

Tyoma and Dadfiend's Guitar

And here's Misty!

Misty and Rubber Cow

Misty was so jazzed over the commotion and guitar playing that she ran all around the back yard shaking her little lamby toy.  Tyoma was a bit freaked, but he seems a bit freaked out in general. He loved Grandpa's guitar and experimented with string plucking. Dad serenaded us all, singing folk songs and some flamenco as well.

"Percy...Who's Queen?"

Thank you clarke-mas for the Amazon gift certificate! I picked out:

  1. Black Adder II For shame! A shame that it has taken me this long to upgrade my Black Adder collection to DVD! Tennisfiend and I watched three episodes last night. “You have a woman’s purse, Milord..." Hee!
  2. E.F. Benson A book of Short horror fiction by on of my favorite Victorian authors, E.F. Benson. This will replace the battered mass market paperback mouldering by my bedside.
  3. Brian Hodge Another book of short horror fiction! This one is from a smaller press, Nightshade Books. I've read Hodge anthologized, but this is the first collection of his I've gotten my hands on. Yay!
  4. Horror Writers Association: How to Write Horror I won't be publishing horror fiction anymore than Clarke-mas will be launching a (full scale!) U-boat.
Coming soon..Adventure Jill's House of Wax Hoppy Toads.Wish me luck!

Mmmwwah!

That was a big kiss I'm sending to brotherkurt and ewbliette! Thank you guys for the lovely bottle of red wine you picked up for us on your honeymoon! We opened it last night to celebrate the aggravation of parenthood.

It was exceptionally delicious and refreshingly relaxing! We want to also thank brotherkurt for helping E proofread his resume. Yay! Now if only ewbliette would hurry up and win the lottery she could hire him! We love you guys!

More Reception Photos...

Look at these two sweethearts! I'm still fiddling with the mountain of pics I took last night, but here is a shot or two.

Wedding Reception!!!

"Tee-hee! Photos are silly!"

Whee! Congrats and !!!! More pics and text to follow! Brotherkurt
will kill me, since I went for the goofy pic. Forgive me, dude, but you look adorable!
Ewbliette and Brotherkurt's reception was a blast! Tennisfiend and I started early with a mid-afternoon visit to show off monster baby. Tkil and Nirikrss were hanging out in the living room, drinking some fine stout and gabbing. TF sat silently, his usual reticent self, while Tkil talked camera tech with me (my brain still feels tiny!). After Ewbliette and Brotherkurt showed off their cake, we took off, ostensibly since baby was fussy, but truthfully since TF is really introverted!
The Wedding Cake
The delicious coconut wedding cake.
I must add that the spread of goodies the happy couple put together for their guests was stupendous! A half a vineyard edged the buffet in the dinning room. Beer enough for an Oktoberfest was lined up in coolers in the back yard. And the food! Good Lord! I think I was too focused on the wine to remember... Oh yes, there was food! Ummmm. Chips and, err, BBQ pulled pork sandwiches!!! And, of course yummy wedding cake!
Nikriss and Greyhound Escorts
Nirikrss and his Greyhound Escorts. Three of the sweetest doggies ever!

As we left, Nirikrss took his three lovely greyhounds for a walk in the park adjacent to the Brotherkurt household. I had a chance to visit with his puppies later in the evening, feeding them doggie biscuits I took along for them. BTW, Nirikrss has the thickest, orangest hair I've ever seen!

Family Outing

Family Outing at the Park

Here we all are at Veteran's Park. Picture courtesy of Papa Yuri and son A.K.

From the center, left: Tyoma, Tennisfiend, Bestfiend, Papa Yuri, Mama Irina, Dadfiend, Momfiend and A.K.

Anyway, here's our little story. Since A.K's folks were in from Moscow at the same time as TF's mom, we were planning on having a giant multi-national jamboree at our house. Unfortunately, poor A.K. came down with his first flu in six years and was totally wiped out.

At the last minute, he suggested that we all meet at the park to protect baby from the flu and still say howdy. The party was set for 12:30, but I planned to meet my folks thirty minutes earlier to ease Tyoma into a new situation with minimal fussiness. New stuff=insane crying jag.

As fate would have it, A.K. and his folks were traveling near the park at about the same time I was. They saw my unmistakably familiar truck (it once belonged to A.K!) and pulled into the park. A.K. and I dashed out to meet each other, both wondering if we had mistaken the proper meeting time. Then my folks showed up! Despite the confusion, we sorted things out and the K family made a quick trip home to pic up camara gear and goodies.

Papa and Mama K gave Tyoma a traditional silver spoon for teething along with a teething toy. Papa Yuri explained how the spoon should be left in baby's water to "purify" it. This quaint custom actually has some medicinal basis since silver solutions are effective and gentle anti-microbials. Anyway, no one brought any vodka or caviar, but we all enjoyed bottled water, including Tyoma who sipped it from the plastic cap. Yay!

Chat with Ewbliette

I gabbed with Ewbliette today, she filled me in on the details of her wedding to Brotherkurt in Las Vegas on the third of this month. I felt like a turd for not keeping in touch more.  She also told me some shocking news: her sister's house burned down over the holidays!  Fortunately no one was injured, but her brother-in-law had some mild smoke inhalation from rescuing the dog. I simply cannot imagine anything so terrible happening to someone I know. Apparently the fire started from fireworks igniting the front porch. Both Ewbliette and I made plans to buy smoke alarms. Brrr!

Congratulations!

To my best friend Ewbliette and her honey Brotherkurt who married today in Las Vegas! I am looking forward to the upcoming wedding reception/bacchanal in May.

Dinner and Drinks with A & I

I treated myself to a cut and style with Rodeo today since I've been feeling so stressed out. He really brightened my day with his outrageous observations and hilarious jokes. All I needed was a reflexology foot massage by Ewbliette!

On the way home, I dropped by the store to pick  up goodies to bring over to the housewarming party A & I would have tonight. I felt very pretty.

"A" was the best man at our wedding a zillion years ago and "I" is his Russian girlfriend of six years. They moved to an upscale apartment complex at the end of last month and have been lavishing attention on their new home by way of new furniture and linens.

Their place was tastefully decorated in a sleek, modern style. Although "I" would cringe at my description, it looked very Ikea to me (she considers Ikea to be "too middle class"). I like their style very much, and I'm not ashamed to be an Ikea patron. Heck, if it looks cool, I'll buy it at Target, K-Mart or Walmart.  I save my money for books!

Anyway...I loved their apartment and classy furniture. "I" fixed us a simple but delicious meal and served it on elegant tableware. We relaxed with drinks afterward, while "A" showed us a scrapbook he had made to celebrate the years he and "I" have had together. I was truly impressed with the effort he put into the project. I was initially under the impression that all of the intricate cut-outs and decals were made on his computer and hand etched by him until he explained that he bought them at Hobby Lobby. On the way home that night, Tennisfiend observed that if they had a child, they would have little time for such pursuits. We laughed the way many parents before us have laughed at those without children (or dogs!).

Happy Birthday Patricia

Ewbliette you are the epitome a best friend! I couldn't have made it through my pregnancy without you!

Top Ten Reasons Why You Are The Best Friend Ever:

  1. You’re super generous. You pick up the neatest little gifts, “just because.” Funky souvenirs, cool rocks, comfy t-shirts, yummy candy, trashy mags, squooshy pillows—you’re the best!
  2. You’re always reliable. Whether I needed you to stop by the store to buy my hubby bananas or to take my early morning “I think I’m having my baby!” phone calls, you were always available.
  3. You’ve got the sturdiest vocal cords. Thousands of years from now, aliens in distant galaxies will be receiving soundwaves of you (loudly!) coaching me: “One, two, three, PUSH! Four, five, six, PUSH! Seven, eight, nine, PUSH! Ten. Cleansing breath…”
  4. You give the best pedicures. When my belly was too big for me to bend over and paint my toenails, you rescued me with your first class fancy pedicures and reflexology sessions.
  5. You’re quick thinking. When I almost collapsed at the hospital with shooting leg pains, you whisked that computer chair under my butt in an instant. The ride to the bathroom was fun, too…
  6. You’re tough as nails. I’ve sent a number of frantic and panicked phone calls your way—you handled each and every one of them with aplomb, including the “My feet are fantastically swollen, I must be dying!” incident that took you away from your work duties.
  7. You’re super thoughtful. I remember you calling me make sure I was okay before you treated yourself to a beer. I also thought it was really kind of you to drive me around aimlessly in your air conditioned car during the hottest days of summer.
  8. You are an awesome note-taker. Kudos to you for the copious notes you took during our childbirth classes and doctor’s appointments. You saved my sanity when all I heard was the bad stuff!
  9. You’re hilarious! Two words: “camel toenails.”
  10. You’re a good listener. Thank you for putting up with my manias and endless ramblings, whether or not I’m pregnant. You always take the time to hear me out and offer sensitive support or a much needed reality check.
Have A Happy Birthday!

Breast Surgery

Yep. This is backdated, fer sure. I was in no state to write on the day of my surgery, let alone compose coherent sentences!

Anyway, I went in for breast surgery today at 12:30 p.m. This is twelve hours after I learned that surfing the internet at light speed under the influence of  Tylenol 3 can make a person barf, big time. I spent the rest of the night worrying about dying from my infection prior to surgery (think Jim Henson) or dying during surgery (think my grandpa) or waking up in recovery without a left breast (think neighbor lady).

Around two in the morning, I woke up to discover that my giant red lump had developed a purplish center. Since I still had no fever, I calmly called our nurse hotline and chatted with Barry, who assured me that I was not going to die--abscesses sometimes develop purple centers. He told me to truck down to the emergency room if I developed a fever or red streaks (I knew that having googled my condition extensively). Overall, he was sweet and reassuring; he made me feel much better. Mwah! Big kiss to Barry.

How ironic that someone who worries so much over her health in general could be taken by surprise and wind up needing a surgical procedure. Someone should have told me to see the doctor if a milk duct is plugged for more than three days.  I also should have started pestering the radioligist sooner. Waiting the extra day and a half for surgery allowed my abscess to double in size--the difference between a needle in a doctor's office and general anesthesia in the hospital. Well, I survived the ordeal--

9:00 Arrive at Dr. Rubble's office.  The nurse gasps when she looks at my abscess. She puts some pain relif lotion on it and tells me that the doctor will be in to lance the abscess shortly. I balk.

9:15 Dr. Rubble enters, non-chalantly looks at my breast, frowns at the nurse  for putting on the lotion and tells her to schedule me for general anesthesia and a Incision and Drainage at noon today. I was rather expecting this. I actually request an IV from Dr. Rubble since I feel so dehydrated from last night's puking festival.

10:45 At the hospital with Tennisfiend, with the IV sloshing glucose, electrolytes and water into my system. A loquacious asian nurse makes me comfortable and continues a dialoge about asian culture with me nonstop until her lunchtime. I appreciate the distraction.

11:00 Momfiend and her backpack arrive. She leaves in an hour to relieve Fontessa, who has been babysitting Tyoma.

11:15 I am grateful that I brought my breast pump, since one is not readily avaible. I pump for a half an hour and worry about genral anethesia while TF tries to stay awake. My abscess is spectacularly painful and I can't take any meds for it.

11:45 The anesthesioligist arrives. He is a short, swarthy Robert Duvall with an inscrutably dry sense of humour. To prevent another barf-fest he orders medication to prevent nausea. Oddly enough, the anti-nauseant nauseates me. Bring out the pink puke cup!

12:00 The chatty nurse returns to inform me that Dr. Rubble will arrive shortly. In sotto voce, she tells us that he is running late.

12:30 The nurse starts the happy meds. I'd be sillier if I weren't so groggy. Pain decreases, yay!

12:45 Dr. Rubble arrives and I am whisked off to the operating chamber.  They put a mask on me and my lights go out.

1:??  I wake up in recovery, still thinking i am in the operating room about to go under. Everything is foggy. I try to make some jokes, but clearly I'm the only one who realizes how hilarious I am. TF arrives. Dr. Rubble gives me detailed instructions related to wound care. I repeat everything back to him. He gives me a prescription for oxycodone. The next hour  mysteriously disappears.

3:30 On the way home my lack of pain meds kicks in. Every bump is agonizing. I curse and whine at TF in a never ending stream. He escorts me to the couch and heads to Walgreens to drop off prescriptions. At home Mom listens patiently while I blather on endlessly. Must be some drugs left in my system!

4:00 I call Pat to let her know I survived the surgery (she told me I would) and to beg her to stop by with some trashy mags after work. Fontessa naps and Mom continues to listen to me blabber non-stop.

Sometime after the pain meds kick in: Ewbliette arrives with a super sweet halloween ghost-bag full of goodies: The Enquirer, Star, Sun, The Globe, Weekly World News ("Alien Mummy Goes on Rampage," YAY!), Acoustic Guitar Magazine (for TF), chocolate covered macadamia nuts, and my favorite cheaparoonie candy--a Christoper's Big Cherry! Ewbliette takes over for Momfiend in listening to me prattle on, even giving me a foot massage! Friends and Family rule!

What's been going on...

It has been too long since we last chatted! And it's all my fault! I was out shopping for Tanya on Sunday since I spent all Saturday at home/having my hair done. Derpy-de-durr. So here's what's been going on:

Tyoma is growing like a weed! I can't wait to have you over to take a peek at him. I plan to take some pics soon, Lord knows when that will actually materialize. He's been healthy and non-colicky. We did have a little problem with acid reflux (!), especially as a result of me drinking too much cranberry juice. I thought that I had a bladder infection, but alas, Lisa told me that it was normal bladder stuff after the epidural. It could take up to six months for my bladder to return to normal. At least I'm not pissing my pants anymore (well, I'm not pissing them much).

Speaking of my six week appointment, I've got some over-healing skin tags that might need to be burned off.  Geeze, that sucks. I'm waiting to see if the over-healed parts will resolve themselves.  Other appointment stuff is boring, except I still have that damn nipple thrush, so I'm hooked up to the breast pump every three hours. How shitty. I've been on a month plus of anti-fungals plus my diet is almost carb free except for oatmeal. I never thought I'd get so sick of cheese and meat. Sigh.

Mimi and I are getting along swell, she's been babysitting for me on Wednesdays while I shop. Since Tanya will be here this Friday, she was here three times last week. It went really well, she's super sweet and entertains Tyoma tremendously. She and Walt have been keeping Misty on and off, too. Misty will be bummed to return here--she just doesn't get the same loveys. This weekend we're leaving Misty at their place till Tanya gets settled.

Saturday  Robert did my hair and he suggested lowlites and bangs for me. Holy crap, I took a chance and WOW! I look different! E was going to snap a pic for me to show you, but we got way too busy and we forgot. I really like the new look, I hope the hair color stays true. Since my hair darkened so much with the pregnancy, my highlights have an orangish cast. Robert said that he'd fix it for me but I didn't want to overprocess my hair. Let's see what I say in two weeks.

I am really looking forward to Nukestock, though my breasfeeding needs may curtain my presence, either that or maybe Brotherkurt could let me pump in his private bathroom so I can stay for a longer time. I have NO clue for a costume, though Robert made some great suggestions. He suggested that I bring Tyoma by for a quick "How do you do" and that we come in a matching costume. His idea was a Popeye-Olive Oyl-Sweetpea triad. How cute! And how sooo not happening. He aslo suggested Angelina Jolie & Shilo, Little bo Peep and Sheep, and Little Miss Muffet and Spider. As if. Heh, I do admire his creativity. I am all out of creative thought!

Well, girl, I do miss you terribly and hope you have a second to tell me what's up with you. For now this post is for your eyes only, so feel free to post whatever. Hope to hear from you soon!

Much love,
Lori

E.T.A.

Well, its four something and I am unwinding for my upcoming three-four hours of sleep. It's great to hear that you'll be home early tomorrow and Wednesday. I've got an appointment for an annual physical with my old physician, Dr. Bass. I haven't had a physical in forever. I'm going primarily so I can get a flu shot this year, that and I have a funny mole on my tummy. Anyway, borrr-ring! I'll check in later tonight since I'm up every three hours to do the breast feeding/pumping thing. How are you? And Brotherkurt? and Daddy? Work? What have you decided on for Nukestock costumes? Hot gossip? You rock!!!

Happy Birthday Brotherkurt

Make that happy belated birthday! brotherkurt’s birthday was a few weeks ago--April 12 to be exact, but it took some time for the party to catch up with him. This weekend’s celebration includes two days and two nights of gaming, involving some intriguing homemade board games. Tonight was mellower that Friday night which involved over thirty avid gamers and (I think) four separate games (as reported by Ewbliette).

I arrived just after the cookout, and had the opportunity to witness the last piece of venison disappear down the gullet of the neighborhood gourmand. I compensated by scarfing down numerous slabs of delicious (salty!) garlic bread followed by four perfectly ripe watermelon segments. Yum!

Under a back porch illuminated by hundreds of tiny orange lights, Rodeyo, Lizard Light and Countessa conducted an animated review of their insane childhood adventures. New Mexico rules—when your ten and firecrackers and bottle rockets are legal, there is no limit to the stuff you can blow up. I am personally amazed that I managed to survive my youth with both eyes and all my fingers and toes intact.

Later, Ewbliette and I moved indoors (smokers!) and I overheard the following snippet from a homemade game being played at the kitchen table, “So, the young blonde woman is now naked, running through the hall and you have to roll to see if she’ll swallow….” Whoa. After an hour discussing Brotherkurt’s home décor (his main bathroom has adorable handpainted fishies festooning the walls!), my brain died and I went home. Tennisfiend, who liked my fashionable new blouse, insisted on taking my photo to send to his family. Unfortunately, the flash revealed a bit much of Bestfiend, particularly my navel and JC Penney undergarments. But I liked my goofy smile, so voila!

The paparazzi effect.

Needless to say, I exchanged my blouse for an opaque cousin, so Moscow was spared the indignity of my Bali and belly.
